Fascia is a type of unique soft tissue that covers and wraps every organ and muscle fiber in your body. It fills all the spaces in your body. Muscle and fascia cannot be separated. The body as a whole has amazing tensegrity, which means that if you apply pressure to an area of the body, it is often felt somewhere else and will effect that part of the body accordingly. Think of the fascia as a whole body stocking.
Myofascial release is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure with the full palm of your hand into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore function and motion. The low load (gentle pressure) applied very slowly will allow the fascia to elongate back to its original shape, size and correct function. For example: If you have a long term shoulder injury, chances are your whole body has adjusted over time to compensate this injury, eventually leading to one shoulder being higher than the other and reducing the ability to fully rotate your head to the same side, or you may not not be able to reach into your back pocket because your movements have become so restricted. Myofascial Release can help to slowly release these compensations, giving you back your freedom to move the way you are supposed to.
